v0.215.1-beta

LarisVMS 0.215.1

This release is mostly about the MSI installers: a fresh install should now go through cleanly the first time, and upgrades take one click. The last public release was 0.213.1, so this one also includes everything from 0.214.0 and 0.215.0.

🛠️ Smoother installs

  • Mistakes are caught before the install, not after. The Web installer checks that your .pfx certificate opens with the password you entered before it continues. A wrong password or an unreadable file is reported in the dialog, instead of a service that won't start.
  • Copied paths just work. Certificate, storage and FFmpeg paths pasted with quotes around them (as Windows' "Copy as path" gives them) are accepted.
  • No more "Starting services" loop. The web service no longer gets stuck starting, or timed out by Windows, when the database is slow or unreachable. It starts straight away and shows the setup wizard until the database is reachable.
  • The setup wizard asks for your database. A fresh install no longer starts with a placeholder connection string pointing at a SQL Server that isn't there.
  • Reinstalling keeps your data. Point the setup wizard at your existing LarisVMS database and it's used as it is: upgraded if needed, nothing overwritten, and the remaining steps skipped. A database that isn't a LarisVMS one is refused.
  • A failed install cleans up after itself. If an install is cancelled or fails, it's rolled back, including its configuration file and the certificate password in it.
  • Live view works after moving to the MSI. Installing the Node or Proxy MSI over a script-installed machine now keeps its direct-streaming endpoint and firewall rule. Before, live view and playback could stay on "connecting".

⚙️ Easier upgrades

  • One click to upgrade. Running a newer MSI finds the existing install and goes straight to Ready to upgrade, with your settings, certificate and service account kept. A domain service account's password is the only thing asked for again.
  • Approve only what matters. Settings → Node builds offers only the newest node and proxy builds; older pending ones are marked Superseded.
  • Nodes come back after updating. Auto-update can no longer leave a node or proxy stopped. If an update fails to apply, the service restarts on its previous version and the node's own log says why.

➕ New

  • Know when there's a new version. Once a day the server checks GitHub, and admins see ✨ Version X is available in the top bar when a newer release is out. Turn it off under Settings → Node defaults → New versions.
  • Steadier layout. The sidebar and top bar stay in place while pages scroll, and page titles now show in the top bar.

🔒 Privacy

LarisVMS is self-hosted: your video stays on your machines, with no telemetry or calling home. The new version check is the only routine outbound request, it sends nothing about your install, and it can be turned off. This release also removes a web-font request to Google and turns off ONNX Runtime's usage events. See the Privacy section in the README.

Also fixed

  • Saving several Settings pages (Branding, Cameras, Events, Live view, Logs, Nodes, Recording, Security, Storage & retention) could silently keep the old values.
  • The setup wizard stayed reachable on a site that was already set up.
  • The install scripts reported "Running as LocalSystem" when the service ran as a service account.

Upgrading: run the new Web MSI on the server, then approve the new node and proxy builds under Settings → Node builds. Nodes and proxies update themselves on their next check-in. Full details are in the CHANGELOG.
